New podcast series: Welcome to the Battle of Bautzen

Welcome to the Battle of Bautzen!

The new series of the Europe At War podcast is live!

For this series, we’ll be taking a detailed look at one of the most intriguing battles of April 1945 – The Battle of Bautzen.

Never heard of the battle but want to know more? Then check out the first two episodes of the series, which were released this morning.

In the new series, you’ll hear about:

How the Battle of Bautzen was one of the largest engagements of the war featuring Polish soldiers.

How epic tank battles raged between the Germans vs the Poles & Soviets – with more German tanks featuring in the fighting in Saxony than took part in the defence of Berlin.

How the Luftwaffe even showed up and managed to score some surprising victories on the battlefield…despite the fact it was late April 1945.

How Polish & Soviet mistakes in the battle enabled the Germans to launch a stunning counterattack in Saxony, which threatened to endanger the overall Red Army drive on Berlin (for a few days at least).

How the Battle of Bautzen has gone down in history as “the final German victory of the war” – very much a controversial and contested claim!

    And much much more…

In response to the feedback about my Halbe series, I’ve prepared longer episodes for the series on Bautzen, packed-full of info, drama, and human stories. Plus, I’ve posted maps in the episode descriptions to help you follow along with the battle.

I hope you enjoy the series 🙂
