Remnants of War – Museum Berlin Karlshorst

How do you commemorate the 85th anniversary of the start of the Second World War? – By visiting the place where the war (in Europe) ended, of course!

Yesterday, the Berlin IC took our first field trip, and we visited the Museum Berlin Karlshorst (formerly called the German-Russian Museum) in Berlin, where on the 8th of May 1945 Germany finally capitulated to the Soviets.

The museum is FANTASTIC, and it manages to pack in so many different topics and attractions.

There’s a lovely array of hardware out front. There are extensive exhibitions covering the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact, the war on the Eastern Front, the alliance between the Allies and the Soviets, and the Battle of Berlin. And of course, there’s the room itself in which the final surrender of the German armed forces was signed.

The museum is FREE to enter, so if you’re ever visiting Berlin, you simply have to put this on your sightseeing list.

You can find more information on the museum and how to get there on their homepage: Museum Berlin Karlshorst
