Stolperstein Sunday – The Heymann Family

Haven’t posted a Stolperstein photo in a while, but this set of stones caught my eye the other day because it’s rare to find an example where an entire family managed to survive.

I’ve tried in vain to find the details of the story, but there’s not much online. What I can say is that the Heymann family, who lived on Königin-Elisabeth-Straße in Charlottenburg, managed to escape with the kids, successfully making it to England via the Kindertransport programme in 1940.

The kids and their father Robert then travelled onto the USA afterwards.

Emma Heymann’s story isn’t so straightforward, however, as it seems she was freed at the end of the war from the Theresienstadt ghetto, to which she had been deported in 1942.

Still, a happy ending nonetheless.
