In my hometown of Brixham in Devon, a slipway was constructed for the embarkation of troops and equipment of the 4th Infantry Division of VII Corps, leaving to take part in the D-Day Normandy landings. – Of course, when I was growing up here as a kid I never realised this…it’s only now in my afflicted years that I actually take notice of these things…
Nowadays, the slipway is used for launching yachts, kayaks, and even RNLI lifeboats (oh and you can park your car there whilst going for a dip on Breakwater Beach). 😎
