Walking the Ground: VE Day in Berlin

What an epic VE Day in Berlin!

Yesterday, the Berlin IC walked all over the city, taking in all of the best sights most relevant for VE Day.

We kicked off the day at the Karlshorst Museum (aka where Germany signed the unconditional surrender on the 8th of May 1945). – And the museum hands down has the best collection of Red Army hardware in Berlin.

Then we rambled through the city, looking at photo exhibitions, half-destroyed S bahn stations, fantastic examples of Spang from the battle of Berlin, the Reichstag, and General Chuikov’s HQ (site of the Berlin garrison surrender on the 2nd of May).

We walked 24km in total, and we treated ourselves to a brilliant day of walking the ground, battle damage, and beer!

The last three photos are from the special exhibition on “The last year of the war” at the Museum Berlin-Karlshorst that runs from May 8th to September 14th, 2025.
