Traces of War – Spang in Potsdam

A lovely bit of Spang from Potsdam!

Potsdam, just to the south-west of Berlin, saw a ton of fighting in the last days of the war, as the Red Army passed through the city in their drive to encircle Berlin.

In the years after the reunification of Germany, most of the buildings in Potsdam were lovingly restored to their former Prussian glory, erasing many of the scars of the Second World War.

BUT this house still bares the mark of the fighting from 80 years ago.

…And to double down on the whole “holy sh*t aren’t we surrounded by the ghosts of the past! Etc. etc.” This spang-scarred house is just down the road from the famous Glienicke Brücke (AKA “The Bridge of Spies”)…
